Dr. Anna Isley, Coordinator of Professional Learning and Gifted Education, will provide the Annual Review for Board information.
The State Department of Education asks each gifted local advisory committee to “review annually the local plan for the education of gifted students, including revisions, and determine the extent to which the plan for the previous year was implemented. The recommendations of the advisory committee shall be submitted in writing through the division superintendent to the school board.”
The gifted advisory committee reviewed the Annual Review at its May meeting.

Priority 1: Increase Academic Achievement
Target 7: Annually increase students’ access to rigor, including critical and creative thinking, as well as offering relevant professional supports for staff.
Strategy 4: Use unleveled courses to create scaffolded rigor and peer to peer relationships that will result in well-prepared, diverse Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement classes.
Strategy 7: Provide a coherent, rigorous, and evidence-based PK-12 literacy/ English language arts program that is fully aligned to the VA standards of learning and the Virginia Literacy Act, including differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.
Strategy 8: Provide a coherent and rigorous PK-12 math program that is fully aligned to the VA standards of learning, including a targeted approach to fluency and number sense and differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.
