Background and Summary: Dr. Anna Isley, Coordinator of Professional Learning and Gifted Education, will share the Local Plan for the Gifted.

The State Department of Education requires division school boards to approve a comprehensive local plan for the education of the gifted that includes the components identified in the regulations. The 2024-2029 local plan will be presented for the board’s review. The plan will be voted on at the May 30, 2024 school board meeting.

Strategic Plan Priority 1: Increase Academic Achievement

Target 7: Annually increase students’ access to rigor, including critical and creative thinking, as well as offering relevant professional supports for staff.

Strategy 4: Use unleveled courses to create scaffolded rigor and peer to peer relationships that will result in well-prepared, diverse Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement classes.

Strategy 7: Provide a coherent, rigorous, and evidence-based PK-12 literacy/ English language arts program that is fully aligned to the VA standards of learning and the Virginia Literacy Act, including differentiation to meet the needs of all learners.

Strategy 8: Provide a coherent and rigorous PK-12 math program that is fully aligned to the VA standards of learning, including a targeted approach to fluency and number sense and differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.

Recommendation: The Superintendent recommends the Board receive the plan.
